Clovers stage comeback to defeat Gwalia Lightning in Celtic Challenge

CLOVERS secure back-to-back victories in the Celtic Challenge after defeating Gwalia Lightning 19-17 at Cork’s Virgin Media Park.

It was the Welsh side who took the lead and led 10-0 through tries from Gwennan Hopkins and Molly Reardon. However, closing tries from Kate Flannery and Clare Gorman gave the Clovers a 12-10 lead at half-time.

Tess Evans’ close range try was then converted by eventual player of the match Sian Jones to put Lightning back in front before Róisín Ormond went over in the closing stages and Flannery kicked the vital winning conversion.

Denis Fogarty’s Clovers were the victors against Brython Thunder last week after being defeated by Wolfhounds in their first match.

Meanwhile the result was Lightning’s, who had topped the standings, first defeat of the Celtic Challenge.
