PRINCETON University defeated Providence College 6-1 in the opening game of the Friendship Series at the SSE Arena.
The Friendship Series is the first and only NCAA Division 1 women’s hockey tournament to be held outside of the United States.
Princeton made a strong start to the game with Issy Wunder breaking the deadlock before Sarah Fillier and Emerson O’Leary netted to make it 3-0 after the first period.
Fillier made it 4-0 on the powerplay at 25:43 as Princeton continued to dominate. Just over a minute later, Sarah Paul scored unassisted to make it 5-0.
Paul tried to net her second of the afternoon, but a great save from Hope Walinski denied her shot with the forward sending the rebound wide.

However, Paul did get her second before the buzzer at 33:49 when her slapshot flew past Providence netminder Walinski to extend the Tigers’ comfortable lead.
O’Leary thought she had made it 7-0 on the powerplay when her effort found the bottom right hand corner, but it was ruled out.
Just 13 seconds into the final period, Providence got on the scoresheet in what proved to be the final goal of the game when Reichen Kirchmair steered home Lindsay Bochna’s pass.
