Ulster President Gerry Doherty and Ulster President Elect Eileen Jones Hardy at the launch of the ULGFA Strategic Plan
GERRY Doherty, President of Ulster Ladies Gaelic launched their 2024 – 2029 Strategic Plan at Canavan’s on Sunday evening. The plan entitled ‘Leading the Way’ sets out how what Ulster Ladies plan to do for the next five years.
Secretary Colm Murray set the background telling the forty plus audience that, “Ulster Ladies Gaelic employ 5 full time staff have over 43, 000 members, 303 registered clubs and 111 schools taking part in Ulster competitions. Despite these impressive figures we are not resting on our laurels. The new plan has 35 strategic actions and 17 ambitions covering 4 areas”.
“We plan to provide opportunities for all, investing in our communities and driving success. We will build the future on 4 pillars”, added Colm.
In the first pillar, people, it is planned to launch a series of volunteer recruitment programmes and re-engage former players to take on non-playing roles.
Pillar two focuses on the game. It is hoped to retain as many players as possible and recruit new ones. A range of introductory participation initiatives are planned, and the area of player drop-off will be addressed.
Development Officer, Ciaran Murtagh elaborated on pillars 3 and 4.
“ULGFA already have a presence on various social media platforms, but the new strategy promises to improve the use of these. Better use is to be made of the organisation’s website and a marketing and communications strategy is to be developed”, said Ciaran.
“Looking to the future, the ULGFA will complete a governance review of themselves, the counties and clubs. New policies and procedures are to be developed, and funding support will be made available to counties and clubs”, added Ciaran.
