Ulster Senior League hockey round-up: Queen’s still lead by two points from Portadown after sides draw 1-1 while Lurgan stay third, thanks to Chloe McCann hat-trick at Ballymoney

Chloe McCann scored a hat-trick for Lurgan

THE gap at the top of the table in the Legacy Wealth Management Premier remains just two points as Queen’s University and Portadown drew 1-1.

The game’s opening goal came midway through the first quarter with Zoe Wilson netting for the students.

The midfielder struck from a penalty corner to net her eighth goal of the league campaign and give her side an early lead but they were soon level once more as Katie Herron scored for their visitors to equalise.

With chances for both sides, neither was able to find a game-winning goal as they had to settle for a point a piece, a result which keeps them neck and neck at the top of the division.

Belfast Harlequins stay fourth in the division after a 2-1 win over Mossley at The Glade.

Last season’s top goalscorer Alyssa Jebb netted whilst Megan Getty also found the scoresheet for the visitors.

Despite a strike from Reah Little, Mossley were unable to find a route back into the game as they suffered a third straight defeat.

The win keeps Harlequins two points behind third-placed Lurgan with a game in hand whereas Mossley find themselves seventh in the division.

Omagh won for a second week running as they beat Banbridge 2-0.

The opening goal came in the second quarter from a pass into the circle from Gemma Buchanan who picked out Sophie Egerton and she got the decisive touch as she deflected into the roof of the net.

They doubled their advantage in the third quarter as Gemma Buchanan netted for the third time in four games, netting from a well-worked penalty corner routine.

With no Banbridge response, Omagh saw out the 2-0 win with the three points seeing them climb to sixth in the table, three points behind Lisnagarvey but with a game in hand.

Lurgan continued their fine start to the league season as they won away to Ballymoney.

Chloe McCann netted a hat-trick to seal all three points for her side, despite a consolation goal from Ballymoney’s Katherine Boyd.

The win means Lurgan are now unbeaten in their last three whilst their opponents have now lost back-to-back games.

Four goals from Scarlett Swann (2), Beth McFerran and Beth Ravey helped Lisnagarvey to a 4-2 win over Armagh.

The win comes despite two Hannah Redmond strikes from their hosts as Garvey won for the third time this season.

Following their result, the Hillsborough side find themselves fifth in the league, one point behind fourth-placed Belfast Harlequins meanwhile Armagh sit seventh.
