Title boost for Reds as Danielle Maxwell is named Sports Direct Women’s Premiership Player of the Month

A boost for Cliftonville ahead of their potential title decider against Glentoran came with key player Danielle Maxwell (above) being named the Sports Direct Women’s Premiership Player of the Month for September.

With seven goals in a spell that saw the Reds win six games out of six, Maxwell played a key role to fire her team to the brink of the League title, which could be clinched when John McGrady’s side host Glentoran Women on Sunday evening.

“I was actually shocked to get the award, but obviously delighted,” said Danielle

“I think I’ve started to come back to myself and I’ve been getting on the scoresheet nearly every week.

“Scoring gives you confidence and I think most of my goals have come from me coming in from the left and shooting, which I think is really a strength in my game and it’s just hoping that the confidence keeps rising over the next couple of games.”

Though Cliftonville approach tonight’s Solitude showdown with victory in mind, avoiding defeat to the Glens will see them crowned Champions for the second time in two years and Danielle says the work she and her team-mates do on the training pitch has helped fire them into such a promising position.

“The results show that we are gelling well as a team,” she adds.

“Training has been really good – the quality and the sharpness – and I think we have brought it into the games. It’s paying off in results and hopefully we can continue to be unbeaten in the League for the rest of the season.”
